“Oh, the unspeakable greatness of that exchange,—the Sinless One is condemned, and he who is guilty goes free; the Blessing bears the curse, and the cursed is brought into blessing; the Life dies, and the dead live; the Glory is whelmed in darkness, and he who knew nothing but confusion of face is clothed with glory.”

The Hubble Deep Field Image

To commit, or not to commit? That is the question.

To commit is to promise loyalty to a work, and to love that work. Because our commitment is to a friend, it isn't hard to give. It's acceptable because love is involved.

The Son of God committed to save the human race. Against our wishes, and with all that was in Him, He followed through with His commitment. Why don't we want to be reconciled to our big Father? To the peace and health that comes with His big love?!

Disregarding our ignorance, He left nothing unutilized for our reconciliation to God. To the last moment of life He stayed faithful to the mission to get the attention of mankind and persuade it to give His Father its full commitment.

Why did Christ expend all His physical, mental, and spiritual resources--to their dregs--in order to win only some of us from perishing in eternal destruction? Why so much investment for so little return? Because of the social factor. He loves our society. He loves sincere, heart to heart socializing. He's not a social butterfly, flitting about looking for excitement, or fun, or interesting conversation. But He wants sincere, deep-hearted fellowship with as many children as possible.

God is not exactly like that. For our good He expects to receive our honor. The Father is love, but He is also the one founder of His kingdom. He is The Founder. "Of Him are all things, and we in Him" (1Cor. 8:6). He allows no contestants to everything He wills. Because of our derangement He must come on strong. Therefore, we can either abide under the laws that come with having life, or we can exist in our own kingdom. But do we really comprehend what creating our own existence would entail?

To exist separately from our Creators, it doesn't do to cut ourselves, cover with tattoos the body He gave us, to encourage the dark side by black fingernails and black lipstick and black hair, to immasculate ourselves in the effort to change the genders He gave us, to smash atoms to find an illusive God particle, to dance in parades with devils, or smoke cigars until we're a hundred years old singing, "I did it my way!"

To honestly exist apart from our Creators we must make our own resources, starting with the our own patented basic elements. We would have to create a whole new periodic table and laws of physics and biology. We would have to arrange those resources in a very elaborate, complex way to make for ourself an intelligent being. And we would have to find a place to set up our own territory that doesn't trespass God's domain. Outside the created universe there's lots of space. Lots and lots of it. Space goes on forever, you know. For ever and for ever. There's no reason to trespass the regions in which God has done His creating.

So, in God's mind, if the human race doesn't want to abide by His arrangement and by-laws, if we don't want to live in God's universe, then we need to get out of His immense realm, even beyond the sphere of the outer reaching galaxies seen in the Hubble space telescope deep field, and we need to go to an empty place outside the part that God rightly claims. With elements of our own making, and that while we don't yet exist, we need to organize them into an intelligent being that has no flaws. It must have sight, be healthy, not retarded, not deformed, it must be dexterous, agile, inventive, creative, loving, trustworthy, personable, etc. etc. etc. We wouldn't be happy if we couldn't have a body that doesn't do everything like the ones He gave us.

Then we have the right to be the God of our own kingdom. Then we can start making suns and planetary systems and galaxies. Then we can have our own universe to look at every night. We would also have to make other creatures to have some companionship and social relationships. So more organizing of elements, molecules, a genome, proteins, etc. etc. etc.

Otherwise, if all that is too inconvenient, then we should accept our creation and the unique individual that God made for us, and praise His holy name always.

This is the way God sees our desire to leave Him and live apart from Him. If we don't want Him or to live by His laws, then go somewhere else. Which is impossible, as impossible as it was for the children of Israel to be cut off from the group wandering in the wilderness and to walk back to Egypt. The odds of surviving the hazards of such a journey were against the choice to leave the manna eating commonwealth in the boiling desert.

God has created this circumstance, our planet situated in His own front yard, in the universe that He made around Himself, a gigantic inescapable universe, just to make it easy for us to choose to surrender to His ways that govern His universe. Given its size, it seems that He meant it to be a no brainer. And to the happy angels and worlds, who are without sin, it is a no brainer.

Let's be grateful for this life and never again say, I didn't ask to be born. Trust His good judgment in making you just like you are, precious in His sight. Make your commitment to obey your Father in heaven. He wants to be your everlasting Father, never to leave you or to lose you. Give your Father your total heart and will and self, and watch what beautiful thing He will make with your gift.
