“Oh, the unspeakable greatness of that exchange,—the Sinless One is condemned, and he who is guilty goes free; the Blessing bears the curse, and the cursed is brought into blessing; the Life dies, and the dead live; the Glory is whelmed in darkness, and he who knew nothing but confusion of face is clothed with glory.”

“Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” (Mat. 6:34).

Our self-sufficiency is what will cause our greatest nightmare come judgment day. And no one escapes judgment day. Even those who are redeemed must pass through the fires of total loss of self and the controls for self, an experience which has been termed “the great time of trouble,” and “Jacob’s troubles.”

Finally, the beholding of Christ’s appearing in power and glory will finish off our pride and self. That day will the root and seed of sin be totally stanched in us, never again to revive. “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.” (1Jn. 3:2).

Until that day we must own up to our true condition. And Christ will help us in that effort. Without Him we will never face our real state. One of His tried and true methods for opening our eyes to our sinfulness is His faithfully sending the consequences to our failures and refusal to walk with Him.

Moses warned Israel for the Lord,
“But if ye will not hearken unto Me, and will not do all these commandments;
And if ye shall despise My statutes, or if your soul abhor My judgments, so that ye will not do all My commandments, but that ye break My covenant:
I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.
And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto Me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins….
And I will break the pride of your power….
And if ye will not be reformed by Me by these things, but will walk contrary unto Me;
Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins….
And if ye will not for all this hearken unto Me, but walk contrary unto Me;
Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins….
If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against Me, and that also they have walked contrary unto Me;
And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:
Then will I remember My covenant with Jacob, and also My covenant with Isaac, and also My covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land. (Lev. 26:14-16,18-19,23-24,27-28,40-42).

The Lord made every provision for the children of Israel and dangled every promise in front of them to encourage them to obey His law of righteousness. But He also let them know what would happen if they strayed from His rule of law. And when they ever strayed, He faithfully brought upon them exactly what He had forewarned. War, death, subjugation, long captivity, and further corruption after being exposed to paganism while captives.

Today, we are facing a towering wall of trouble in an apocalyptic size tsunami of persecution heading our way. In the aftermath of 911, the restoration of the Papal power, the concentration of world wealth in the hands of the Papacy and its secret organs. Soon, very soon, the world will know of slavery on a massive scale. Protestantism will have acquiesced to Rome, as well will have the world religions of spiritualism joined in this new three-way union.

What will be our response? That all this came upon us just because it was prophesied? Or will we see it as punishment for our irresponsibility to be true to God and keep His word with all our heart? Will we blame ourselves for all that has come? Will we admit to the uncircumicision of our hearts, i.e. our lack of conversion, and cry to God for forgiveness?

Will we pray Daniel’s prayer? “As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the Lord our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth.” (Dan. 9:13). Only those who admit to the iniquity of their punishment will God hear.

“Shall not God avenge His own elect, which cry day and night unto Him, though He bear long with them?
I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall He find faith on the earth?” (Lk. 8:7,8).
