"He led captivity captive."
"He led captivity captive."
We are all under one or the two powers that are contending
for the supremacy of the world. When Jesus delivered the children of Israel He
brought them under another power. He delivered them from Satan and brought them
under Himself. If we are not under our Creator, then we are under the god of
this world. But being under our Father who made the law of liberty, who treats
us as a father who gives some freedom to fall and fail, yet receives us again,
picks us up and dusts us off, is not the same as the serving the god of
atheism. Agnotheism and the modern "freedom from religion" look
freeing, but agnotheism a very subtle bondage that eats away at the soul. There
is little happiness and a lot of cancer. The comfort of God does not exist in
agnotheism, unless He can still sneak in His peace without abusing our right of
choice. His mercy endureth forever.
Alice Cooper came out of it back to Christ saying the same
thing. Google his testimony on YouTube. He said he left because he got an
overdose of religion! That's funny! He is glad to back in the service of Jesus.
But, you are very correct that bad religion is very damaging
and as much bondage as are freedom from religion and agnotheism. "The
law" is "the strength of sin" (1Cor. 15:56).
I can appreciate your great concern about the bondage of
Christianity. You are spot on. But the answer is to find the true Christianity.
Study the Bible without all the constructs and paradigms that Jesus and the
whole Bible did not present. Let the Bible talk to you. Learn what it is saying
by starting with asking God to deafen your mind to the old understandings of
it. Do what it says--but not carelessly, or mindlessly, or heartlessly, or
spiritlessly. You will find your new adventure filled with joy and pleasure
because Jesus will be working it all in you and out of you. He has been with
you on your earnest first journey, and He will be with you till the end.
"Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed,
...work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which
worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure." (Phil. 2:12,13).
"Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath
begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ."
(Phil. 1:6).
