“Oh, the unspeakable greatness of that exchange,—the Sinless One is condemned, and he who is guilty goes free; the Blessing bears the curse, and the cursed is brought into blessing; the Life dies, and the dead live; the Glory is whelmed in darkness, and he who knew nothing but confusion of face is clothed with glory.”

Comment to an ex-Christian

Many renowned and even powerful people throughout history have been lost in obscurity. Except for some real archaeologists and historians the names of those hundreds or thousands of those who were renowned in their day have been forgotten and no one cares to make a peep about them. Why is the Bible and the God of the Bible still renowned? This is something to be wrestled with.

But today’s godless descendants of the Reformation are repeating a history that we see many, many times in the Bible. “Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness: for they say, The LORD hath forsaken the earth, and the LORD seeth not.” (Eze. 9:9). “And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.” (Gen. 11:1-4).

One very wise man wrote, “The foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.” Jehovah is constantly challenging us to rethink our “covenant with death”, and to see that “cursed is the man that trusteth in man”.

“For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” (1Cor. 1:19-21).

“We preach Christ crucified” means that we must also be crucified. We must be humbled into the dust and repent in utter self-disgust. I didn’t mean that be sound like rap lyrics. The highest a weak and fallen sinner can attain is when he admits to his complete worthlessness and bows to the sentence of damnation, but clings to the hope in the righteous Judge’s mercy. He has learned the greatest wisdom of all, to zip his lip like Job learned. He will be lifted up by the Almighty.

The wisest people, even though they don’t wear a badge of scholarship, or have some title of greatness after their name, all testify that self-sacrificing love will teach the true wisdom. Anyone who exalts a belief system that destroys the One who best exemplified that wisdom will end in utter personal confusion, “the land is full of blood, and the [capital] city full of perverseness”.

As far as all the much bandied-about “scholarship” is concerned, I see that it is all knowledge mixed with great evil, and has enticed millions to join the one most ancient, atheistic, classical, “academic”, religion of Ba ‘al and his Babylonian pedagogy. I am not opposed to education, but we should all fear that dirty knowledge like we fear a dirty nuclear bomb. I judge that you don’t want to go there. You just want the truth, and no one who you sought out knew the answers to your concerns maybe because they had never repented and didn’t themselves know God.

Even if the way of biblical truth is not clear to you, my dear sister, and the times of heaven’s justice upon sinners seem dark and overkill, remember that all of us fools would do well to fear a belief system that preys on us to reject the words, “When they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.” We all need to view God’s justice upon sinners in light of His much severer justice upon Himself.

You have a beautiful spirit and wonderfully inquisitive mind like Jesus had. The Lord make His face to shine upon you, and give you peace.
