“Oh, the unspeakable greatness of that exchange,—the Sinless One is condemned, and he who is guilty goes free; the Blessing bears the curse, and the cursed is brought into blessing; the Life dies, and the dead live; the Glory is whelmed in darkness, and he who knew nothing but confusion of face is clothed with glory.”

Prisoners of hope

“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.” (Ps. 32:1,2).

We are normally and naturally cut off from the spirituality and life from God. When we aren’t reconciled to God, we hate His Law and even His reconciliation. If we have cut ourselves off from His reconciliation, how can He ever bring us to Him? How can He save us?

He does it through trouble. He allows our inbred wickedness to punish us. Thus, He humbles us and that prepares us for needing His reconciling promises. He expedites the process of our humiliation by opening the floodgates of Satan to tempt us and hurt us. When we’ve had quite enough of life on the dark side, we naturally will look up to God.

Like the prodigal son, who “came to himself,” (Lk. 15:17) we finally break. “The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” (Ps. 34:17,18).

“The righteous cry.” Wonderful thought, that the Lord calls us righteous while we are still in the process of coming out of wickedness! Our lives are still wretched, but the Lord looks on the thoughts and intents of our heart. Need and sorrow create faith; so, He counts our need of Him and our sorrow for our sinfulness as righteousness.

“The LORD redeemeth the soul of His servants: and none of them that trust in Him shall be desolate.” (Ps. 34:22).

“I will bless the LORD at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together.
I sought the LORD, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
They looked unto Him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.
This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.”
