Sealing, settling in of truth, and shaking
The leaders in the sanitarium have mingled with unbelievers, admitting them to their councils, more or less; but it is like going to work with their eyes shut. They lack the discernment to see what is going to break upon us at any time. There is a spirit of desperation, of war and bloodshed, and that spirit will increase until the very close of time. Just as soon as the people of God are sealed in their foreheads, —it is not any seal or mark that can be seen, but a settling into the truth, both intellectually and spiritually, so they cannot be moved, —just as soon as God's people are sealed and prepared for the shaking, it will come. Indeed, it has begun already; the judgments of God are now upon the land, to give us warning, that we may know what is coming. Ms 173, 1902, pp. 3-6. “There is a spirit of desperation, of war and bloodshed, and that spirit will increase until the very close of time… Indeed, it has begun already; the judgments of God are now upon the land.” The judgments have been on the land since 1849, and increasingly so as we near Christ’s coming. The death-like pall on the heart and mind of man force global contentions and the drive to unite the world under Satan for his promised peace of mind. That peace of mind will ultimately consist of ridding the world of his despised enemies—those who have made it to God, received the peace of His justification and Holy Spirit, and now love to be like Jesus.
He won’t get any rest until they are all gone from the Earth, thus the unrest spreading around the world.
“The beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit,” the “smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace” and the “locusts upon the earth” with “power, as the scorpions of the earth have power” (Rev. 9:2,3) have been doing their work to aggravate strife between individuals, cultures, and nations.
This is Satan working with all deceivableness of unrighteousness through the second beast of Revelation 13 who works for the first beast of that vision. This beast, also called, “the false prophet”, is responding to Satan’s darkening of God’s light and grace and cooperating with the prince of evil. That false prophet “wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image.” (Rev. 19:20). These miracles are the false revivals taking place with the spread of Evangelical Protestantism.
This evangelical gospel work evinces the demonstration of the Holy Spirit, but it is only human sparks backed by the hosts of darkness. “Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of Mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.” (Is. 50:11). Millions today grope in misery and mental pain, seeking relief. Evangelical worship centers offer temporary relief through singing, praying, and hearing promises. But its all just propitiation. It simply attempts to appease God and wake Him up to their needs, like the 450 prophets of Baal on Mt. Carmel.
Jesus alone can be our propitiation to God. He alone can please God. “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matt. 3:17). Our appeasing of God only insults Him more.
All that man can possibly do toward his own salvation is to accept the invitation, “Whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” (Revelation 22:17). 1SM, P. 343.
We have nothing with which to approach God. So Satan inspires sinners to try hard, when only a heart warmed by Jesus’ grace toward alone allows Him, through His Spirit, to bring us into God’s presence.
The loud, wild beseeching of heaven is Pentecostalism, the wispy beast of darkness moving into Protestantism after the reformers died, as it did to Catholicism after the apostles passed away. It’s empty of truth and grace and defeats the knowledge of God they might have.
