Patriarchal and totalitarian religion
Most modern governments are civil, and for good reason. This is because Satan has tried to force his spiritualistic, tyrannical control onto the world’s nations through his subtle, pagan religion. Modern governments are constitutional because the world’s movements have moved toward big nations and empires. And where these multi-family, multi-tribe and multi-culture alliances exist, the big nations are forced to use constitutions and to rule through laws made by representatives from the different peoples within each nation.
But Protestantism with its freedoms, also having spread its good influence upon the nations which have accepted constitutional government, has been a religion without the force of law as its motivation. While the nations have drawn together and now must rule by constitution, this world has not been left without God’s representation of His own heavenly kingdom, established for Adam in Eden. Protestantism’s charter of grace by faith, dwelling under, yet separate from, constitutional and civil governments, has represented a restoration of the patriarchal arrangement of the ancient past, the agreement by covenant and the trusting verbal acceptance of promises, originally given to Adam and passed down the generations until Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Protestantism restored the form of leadership Abraham had with God. But as God has His sworn enemy who “smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, …that ruled the nations in anger,” so does His Protestant church. (Is. 14:6). His church’s enemy comes to it as a wolf in sheep’s clothing, claiming to be “the Church,” the only church of Christ, but ruling by unbiblical falsehoods to its adherents and satanic force to its enemies, not by Christ’s love. Rome is a civil, militaristic, belligerent, brutal machine bent on destroying the beautiful, pastoral peace the world has had since God raised up Protestant America with its personal freedoms offered to everyone who will abide by God’s commandments. But, through artifice, God’s enemy must cast to the side the peaceful, blessed, holy religion of God, first the original apostolic Christianity seventeen centuries ago, and now Protestantism.
“An host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.” (Dan. 8:12). Just as the children of Israel lost their holiness (Gen. 35:2-4) and their patriarchal life, the Reformation’s gracious gospel has suffered and God has allowed it to disappear because the Protestant children lost their desire to be sanctified by it and be made holy. “The law…was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made.” (Gal. 3:19).
Once the Protestants departed from their strong tower of obedience to God’s Law, the only option left to them was the exciting lure of rebellion and its obligatory combination of tyrannical, oppressive government and state-religion. “The Lord spake also unto me again, saying, Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah’s son;
Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:
And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.” (Is. 8:5-8).
“Ichabod ,” O America, Protestant Israel of God. Thy glory has departed.
By Christ’s Advent movement, the preaching of the Law and Judgment Day has forced the imputation of sin upon the world, and has forced it to choose either total hedonism or full obedience to God. Because of transgression, Jacob’s children were no longer worthy of God’s wonderful patriarchal peace; likewise, the children of the reformers. So Christ gave us the fruit of our self-will. He gave us heavy emphasis of His Law through His prophet Ellen White to reach those who wanted to have righteousness and peace with God, while simultaneously opening the door of satanic influence to delude all who chose to follow after unrighteousness and freedom from God.
Thus, shortly after 1844, as Revelation foretold, “I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.
And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.
And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.” (Rev. 9:1-4).
But when the immutable Law of God and the strong delusion of Satan have fully separated the world into two spiritual camps, the Latter Rain will fall, as also will come forth the three frog-like spirits. Miracles, divine and demonic, will fully ripen both camps. The old, gracious rule by relationship will be restored to God’s children, but the totalitarian rule by threat of death will be the reward of the wicked. The first will be a kingdom of peace; the latter, a kingdom of fear. God’s people will once again be humbled by 150 years of Law and will surrender to Christ’s Spirit, thus they will be safe to be trusted with His gospel of grace to give to the world. The 144,000 will be possessed by the heavenly agencies from above and will garner in the great multitude which no man can number.
But all those who dispensed with God’s Law and obedience and the fear of God and Judgment Day from their thoughts, whether they ended up in the gutter and drug addiction or remained in the churches, will be swept into spiritualism and demonic control.
“Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.” (Dan. 12:10).” And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.” (vs. 3).
